DRAWINGS & ILLUSTRATIONS
Takeshi Yamada's passion in pen and ink drawing started when he first built his own series of dipping pens and fountain pens when he was eight year old (third grade). Yamada was commissioned to create over 300 pen and ink illustrations to be published twice a week for the Chicago Japanese American News (newspaper) in Chicago during 1996 and 1999. He also implemented his draftsmanship for creating his etching prints at art schools in Japan and the United States. Yamada also invented a series of new style of dipping pens by using the sward-like long hard tail (telson) of the Atlantic horseshoe crabs, when he found their carcasses at the waterfront of Coney Island Beach in Brooklyn, NY in 2002. Yamada's recent pen and ink illustrations on paper with impeccable draftsmanship reflect his passion for cryptozoological creatures (cryptids) and mythic animals. Some of these artworks were also enhanced with water colors, ink wash, graphite and color pencils etc. and became unique prints to be sold at galleries.
